Selena Gomez has walked only two red carpets in 2019, but she’s done both in epic fashion. First she appeared at We Day in a tea-length Dior gown. Now she’s making her Cannes Film Festival debut with one of her favorite designers.
Gomez was celebrating the premiere of the zombie horror flick The Dead Don’t Die, which she stars in alongside Tilda Swinton, Adam Driver, and Bill Murray (you know, a very casual cast). The movie was opening the prestigious French festival and is in the running for the top Palme d’Or prize. Given the attention this red carpet would be getting, Gomez decided to go full Hollywood with her outfit: a custom two-piece gown by Louis Vuitton. (She was once a face for the brand.)
Nicolas Ghesquière, the brand’s creative director, made Gomez a sleek leather and satin bustier with a matching skirt and oversize belt. The look was big on the details: quilted paneling, an extra-high slit, and an X-shaped drawstring tie on the back.
She accessorized with silver pumps by Jimmy Choo and a dazzling, showstopping jeweled necklace from Bulgari. Longtime makeup artist Hung Vanngo gave Gomez a bright red lip and sophisticated cat eye, and hairstylist Marissa Marino opted for a sophisticated updo.
Stylist Kate Young shared a video of Gomez before the red carpet, showing off her sparkling Bulgari necklace, ring, and earrings (and making good use of the KiraKira app).
Earlier in the day Gomez shared a series of selfies on Instagram to announce her arrival in the South of France. “Hi Cannes…you’re very pretty,” she wrote.
Gomez had been keeping a pretty low profile but has recently come back into the public eye to announce a series of upcoming projects, including new music, new collaborations, and new movies, like the one she’s promoting at Cannes. It’s shaping up to be quite the year for her. Hopefully that means there are even more red-carpet moments to look forward to.
